Nuremberg - Alt Stadt

At the end of my first full day in Nuremberg, my colleague and I ventured into the old part of Nuremberg after work to find something to eat. Our eating wasn't too successful as we settled for the familiar and ate at McDonald's. But this picture I found on the way back through town as we were returning to our hotel.

Pfarrkirche Unsere Liebe Frau (Church of Our Dear Lady

On Sunday before church I went for a walk through the old part of town. On Sunday mornings the streets are quiet in Nuernberg. This is a picture of one of the many churches in Nuernberg. Right on the main square, I've read that the time to be in front of this one is at noon when the clock strikes.

Maxfeldstrasse 5

For the many people I work with who have never been to our offices in Nuernberg. A shot of the front entrance to Maxfeldstrasse 5 where our office here is located.

Parking the Car

Space is a premium in the city of Nuernberg. During my walkings around town, I find it interesting that there are very explicit instructions on where you can and cannot park your car. The first and most obvious place to park, is on the curb.

Not quite as obvious - park half on the curb and half in the street.

And finally, half off, half on, but straight in, not parallel to the curb.

Looking for a Bike Shop, Finding a Graveyard

On Saturday morning I headed out from my hotel in search of a bike shop, knowing full well that it is much too cold, at least for me, to be riding a bike. Especially considering I am in a foreign country without any of the necessaries to keep me warm on a bike when its snowing outside and temperatures are hovering in the 30s during the day.

Nonethless I went looking, maybe on the off-chance that there will be heat wave one of these weekends while I'm here and I will be able to get out somewhere on a bike. Not having any success in my hunt for a bike shop, I accidentally stumbled on a fascinating graveyard surrounding a small church on the western side of Nuernberg. Turns out as long ago as 1528 they were burying people like Albrecht Durer here. There are also people buried as recently as last year. A very fascinating place.

Nuremberg Zoo

What to do on a cold Sunday in December when you don't have a car and and the Christmas Market in Nuremberg is overrun with weekend visitors? Turns out that one of the trams runs from the middle of the city and ends at the Nuremberg Zoo. The Zoo is part of a larger park or preserve which was my original intent. I thought to take a walk through the woods on a cold afternoon. But since I arrived here straight from church and didn't have shoes suitable to unpaved trails, my attentation turned to the zoo. This is one of two statues leading into the zoo and as the other one was a topless woman, it being Sunday and all...

Backerei in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

For those who know me, they know that I would naturally be the one to find a bakery. This is the front of one in Rothenburg.

Snowy December in Nuremberg

The view from the Nuernberg castle with snow and low slung clouds covering the city.

Arrival in Frankfurt

I am back in Germany again for another 3 week stint. Instead of flying all the way to Nuremberg, my flight ended in Frankfurt. In case you are ever traveling by train from the Frankfurt airport. If you see something that looks like this you will know that you have made it to the train platform and are awaiting your departure.

Neuschwanstein in Winter - Part 2

The last turn before you reach the castle. If you make it this far, most of the hike is over.

Neuschwanstein - Marienbrucke

In English this is called Queen Mary's bridge. Since my visit obviously took place in the winter, we couldn't make the fifteen minute walk to this bridge. The signs, mostly in German, said something about Danger, snow, ice and slipping into deep ravines which would cause serious injury and/or death.

Running Bear Pancake House in West Yellowstone, MT

One of my favorite things about traveling is the food. A family motto and alternate name for this blog would be A Restaurant Runs Through It. Wherever we go and whatever we do, food is an important part of the experience. On our most recent trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and Jackson, WY we spent our first night in West Yellowstone, MT.

Maddox Ranch House and Family Drive-In

North of Salt Lake City and Ogden is a smaller Utah town called Brigham City. I have memories of going there with my dad when I was younger. There are three distinct memories I have of the town.
