Londontown
My fascination and semi-obsessive relationship with London began almost as an accident. I was approaching the end of my senior year in high school and a friend of mine told me his father was taking a group of college students on a Study Abroad in London for the upcoming summer term and fall semester. There were some open spots that they were trying to fill and then the fated question, ??Do you want to come with us??
With parents willing to foot the bill, I found myself on a trans-atlantic flight about three weeks after my high school graduation, with plans to study and live in London for 5 months, until the early part of December that year. Other than a few days or a week at a time, it was by far the longest time away from home that I had ever spent by myself. Fortunately, I wasn??t the only person from my group of friends that signed on, so my high school experience, extended in some ways to a grand tour of London and later the rest of Europe.
I’m sure I will have opportunity to reminisce more about that later, but for now let it suffice to say that this year marks twenty years since I first visited and lived in London and I yearn for it now more than I ever did living there. This entry marks the start of a new category on this blog and is a place for me to collect all things London that interest me. A catalog of experiences, books, movies, plays, shows and anything else related to London.
